    What is Isofix?

Isofix stands for International Standards Organisation FIX. (The F-I-X in Isofix is just 'fix'!).

Isofix is a relatively new method of securing a car seat in your car which is much easier to use correctly than fitting your child's seat with a standard adult seat belt. It's an international standard which has been adopted by car manufacturers and many child car seat brands.

The Isofix system makes fitting your child's car seat easy, safe and secure.

    How does Isofix work?

Rather than use a standard seatbelt to secure your baby's seat or infant carrier, an Isofix car seat slots securely into two anchor points which come ready built into many cars. Some very new cars also have a third ISOFIX point which ensures that the child car seat does not tip forward.  Some, like the Maxi-Cosi PrioriFix range of car seats and infant carriers include an extending leg which acts as an alternative third anchoring point for older cars.

Research conducted by the AA suggests that as many as 80% of child car seats are not fitted correctly.  With an Isofix car seat, incorrect fitting is less likely as you don't have to struggle with a seatbelt everytime you put your infant carrier into the car!
